Damien - the sign of '666'
Damien Hirst, he's havin' a laugh ani ? a laugh all the way to the bank,... if this work had any panache or humour he would have done 100 of them, but what we are left with is a pretty disco mirror ball. Yes, someone will buy it, but, really do these people have any morals, whilst someone is dying from malnutrition, and kids are picking over rubbish tips in Africa trying to find something to eat, we are presented with this obscene piece of work. What is Damien doing for art ? Its really gone beyond liking or disliking, after all art is all subjective now... I hope someone nicks it and makes some crappo wedding rings for Argos with it. Is anyone really going to put this ugly aberration on display in their home ??
Andy Warhol would have a guy making dozens of them in a back room. Andy Warhol had humour, intelligence, was completely cutting edge and new, and of-course most importantly gave us (or helped give us) the Velvet Underground, just about the most important band ever. What has Damien Hurst given us, corporate toys and trinkets for the superrich .

i totally agree - i saw him on newsnight trying to explain his "artistic vision" (how it is to do with mans mortality or some balls like that) and it just sounded like some chancer who can't believe his luck at how long he has been hoodwinking the pretension dogs who give him publicity & money - it truly is a piece of work that anyone could have done.

I was really surprised at how much stuff I had back about Damien-666-Hirst... Does this guy really attract so much vitriol. If he had done the skull with fake diamonds and tried to pass it off as real, and sold it for 60 million (the actual price), that would have been interesting, and a play on art (in my view), but Damien doesn't seem to have fulfilled the movement that spawned him...
Anyway, I like your self-portrait !!

there's an old squirrel skull at the top of my garden, I've let it rot down a bit,, and just started sticking bits of old diamante on it , what do you reckon', is it a line?,... Rodent Art Rocks !

I don't have a huge issue with Damien-666, it was just a little expression of thought on the mass media attack the Skull has had, boy have the media been talking about ! I just feel it is kinda obscene with such suffering and poverty everywhere we look that there is so much money involved, it has almost gone beyond any artistic merit because its worth so much before it is even in the market-place. Its shocking - a bit like the astronomical amounts footballers earn... here I go.. I feel a soapbox being pushed under my tootsies !
